Brief on industrial refrigeration systems
Most people do not know what refrigeration engineering is. It deals with all the fluids and processes which go into maintaining the correct temperature. Shopping malls, mind. refrigerators, cold storages, processing industry; they all use some kind of refrigeration systems. The process involves compressing, condensing, and evaporating of refrigerants. Freon and ammonia are two refrigerants most commonly used forindustrial refrigeration.
Industrial refrigeration systems are deployed in chemical plants, food and processing industry, pharmaceutical industry, malls, airports, commercial buildings. There are many companies who provide industrial refrigeration solutions to various industries. Because of global warming and ozone depletion, regulations have been placed on the use of chlorofluorocarbons and hydro chlorofluorocarbons.
Research and studies are on to find a new safer alternative to these refrigerants. Still, for industrial refrigeration systems, ammonia is the best alternative. It is cost effective, and has thermodynamic properties similar to halocarbons but the good part is that it has no affect on ozone layer.
Any industrial refrigeration solutions which use ammonia as a refrigerant, safety should be the priority. Ammonia spills and leaks are common problems which are very hazardous and can cause fire and explosions. Good protective clothing, design and equipments should chosen keeping the safety in
