As the birthplace of the ancient goddess Aphrodite, and the island hub of the eastern Mediterranean, Cyprus is a cosmopolitan destination. On the southwestern coast of the island, the city of Paphos is a delightful destination for any holiday, combining the allure of the Mediterranean climate, ancient culture, and modern development. Additionally, cheap holidays to Paphos are more than possible for those with budgetary concerns, with no loss to the visitor’s cultural experience.

With signs of habitation since the Neolithic period, holidays to Paphos have much to offer visitors with varied interests. In ancient times, there were two sites known as Paphos, Old Paphos and New Paphos. Paphos, as it is known, today, is on the site of New Paphos. Near to New Paphos, Old Paphos is near the mythical site of Aphrodite’s birth, Petra Tou Romiou. Translating as the “Rock of the Greek,” Petra Tou Romiou is a significant place for anyone interested in mythology, history, or culture.

Paphos also contains remains from the Classical, Hellenistic, and Roman periods, as it was an important trade centre and port of call. For those who travel on holidays to Paphos, the temples, villas, palaces, and mosaics, especially those in the house of Dionysus, are must-see attractions. For its cultural significance, Paphos was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980.

Starting in 1974, Paphos underwent an economic revival. With renewed interest from the government in the 1980’s, Paphos’ infrastructure was renovated, with water distribution networks, roadways, and the construction of Cyprus’ second international airport, the Paphos International Airport. With the convenience of a nearby international airport, an effective road system and transportation, cheap holidays to Paphos are made even more alluring by the presence of modern conveniences.

Also, after considering Paphos’ sub-tropical Mediterranean climate, it becomes an irresistible island destination.
