Top Attractions to Enjoy in London
From the British Museum to Madame Tussauds, London has a whole plethora of attractions, suitable for every taste. Of these one of the most popular is the British Museum.
Opened in 1752 by an Act of Parliament, the British Museum is one of the latest historical museums in the United Kingdom and indeed, in the world. Originally founded on the collections of Sir Hans Sloane the British Museum houses collections and artifacts from the prehistoric man right up to modern times.
Some of the most popular attractions at the British Museum include the Rosetta Stone, the Sutton Hoo, the Portland Vase and some of the many sculptures from the Parthenon. Daily tours, walks and special exhibitions are all available, although since these change on a regular basis it is always worthwhile contacting the museum first.
Another of London’s most frequented attractions, the Tower of London is one of London’s most mysterious and ultimately one of its most popular attractions. Founded by William the Conqueror, the tower hold stories of torture and death having served as a fortress and a prison while at the same time more cheerful tales of its times as a royal palace and even – at last a part of it – was a zoo.
During its more gruesome lifetime, the tower held some more famous prisoners, from the lowest levels of society to some of the more prestigious levels, with many of their tales available to read about whilst at the tower. The tower is open all year round and is suitable for all ages.
